It’s been a while since our last update, but to be perfectly honest there just wasn’t much that seemed worth updating for. That’s changed though, and through the good-willed efforts of one of the oldest and best crews in EverQuest, Meldrath is down. We’ve seen a lot of expansions going back now to pretty much the beginning, so we really only seem to care about the big things these days. Good job to everyone who put forth the effort there.
I do wish it was a bit more exciting though, as much fun as waiting for Meldrath to respawn 9 or so times in order to progress further I’m not a big fan of artificial time blocks like that. It is what it is though. With the current system of T4 requiring the T3 molds I guess it won’t hurt to fill out a bit more so we don’t need to do a mansion run before every attempt at Crystallos. I just think we all have more fun beating new events though than farming the old.
My one real gripe though? What happened to the beta tests on this stuff? Seriously? Lets do a bit of a better job of it in the future. With mansion events being changed weekly, sometimes daily for a few weeks at a time in order to tune them properly… it clearly wasn’t even close to being done. Now, I realize that most events are never 100% there by the time they hit live, but this expansions level of untuning seemed even more excessive than in the past. Unfortunately, from what I’m hearing Crystallos is no different. All of us as beta testers and the dev team working on the events have a responsibility to do the best job they can ensuring the events are as close to ready for live as possible. We all know it’s not always 100%, but this expansion just seemed extraordinarily unrefined. Oh well, there’s always the next one.
But enough of that, let’s talk about the fun stuff. I like the Mansion encounters themselves, I think they were pretty well designed and tried to be creative. The first time I saw the blimp I about fell out of my chair laughing feeling like we were the German army on D-Day. Then the Disco boards, Surprise Mortals! 2.0, and even the Rock’em Sock’Em robots, some events more fun than others but overall it was a creative zone. I hope Crystallos can bring the same variety.
We’ve also been keeping pretty much all of the decent fabled down, and while fun for nostalgia they seem way too easy. But, it is a temporary event and it’s certainly a fun diversion and I know we had a lot of fun the first time or two through them. I’m glad they were able to pull it off. LDoN/LoY or GoD next year? Fabled Uqua, hmmmm Well, enough of that. We’re looking forward to jumping into Crystallos as soon as we physically can for the next phase death, destruction, adventure.
Until next time!
